Greater Louisville Inc. Releases Local Legislative Priorities

Greater Louisville Inc. unveiled its 2022 local legislative agenda which illustrates its top priorities for the year. The agenda features long-term priorities like increasing public safety measures and much-needed updates to streamline the city’s land development code. Other priorities include implementing relocation incentives to attract top talent and businesses, addressing public safety and criminal justice reforms.

“Advocacy at the local level of government provides invaluable opportunities to shape policies that will have a direct impact on the region’s ability to attract and retain businesses and talent,” said Sarah Davasher-Wisdom, president and CEO of GLI. “Through feedback from our members, our local agenda is a reflection of the business community’s top priorities in the year ahead and provides a framework of the policies we will pursue to grow our regional economy.”

While local advocacy has been a part of GLI’s work for many years, it released its first local agenda in 2020 in response to the changing needs of the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2022 agenda prioritizes policies that will not only help the city recover post-pandemic, but also accelerate economic growth and create a more competitive and inclusive region.

The agenda features priorities in a variety of areas including infrastructure, environmental regulations, public safety, education, public health, and more. The document was carefully curated based on feedback from GLI’s six advocacy committees, Land Development Task Force, Public Policy Council, Board of Directors, and Business Council to End Racism, to ensure it maintained an equitable and business-focused lens.

“GLI’s strong collaboration with Metro Council and the Mayor’s Office is critical to our region’s continued growth,” said Shelby Williams Somervell, GLI’s vice president of government affairs and communications. “Many of the policies in our local agenda are designed to make our region more attractive to prospective companies, talent, and visitors. I am looking forward to working with local leaders to advance these priorities in the year ahead and ultimately propel our region to the next level.”
